    SciELO Network Site Evaluation Guide

    SciELO Network Site Evaluation Guide  

    Version March 2008   

    This guide aims to direct the evaluation and certification of SciELO Network sites, enabling to check the aspects of SciELO Sites under development, in order to guarantee the consistency of its structure, contents and interface, as well as to facilitate the review and evaluation process of SciELO Sites under development phase.

    It is meant for those responsible for implementing and developing national or thematic SciELO Sites and to evaluate national or thematic SciELO Sites under implementation.


    Interface quality evaluation

    The interface quality of the SciELO Site is checked considering eight aspects: SciELO Site home page, browsing pages, journal home page, journal secondary pages, collection, table of contents, abstracts and articles, according to the items specified below.


    1. SciELO Site Home Page

    a. Does the SciELO logo have the corresponding name of the country/theme?
     
     
    b. Is there a hyperlink to SciELO.org portal?
     
     
    c. Is there a hyperlink to national/thematic selection criteria?
     
     
    d. If there are no national/thematic criteria, is there a hyperlink for the general criteria at SciELO.org portal?
     
     
    e. Does the text on 'SciELO' correspond to project data in the country/theme?
     
     
    f. Does the text 'about this site' correspond to project data in the country/theme?
     
     
    g. Do the address, telephone numbers and e-mail in the footer correspond to the institution responsible for the country/theme?
     
     
    h. Are the titles of the hyperlinks on the left side menu the same as the text titles to which they refer to?
     
     

     



    2. Browsing pages (alphabetic list and topic list)

    a. Do all existing titles appear in alphabetic order?
     
     
    b. Are the topics clearly identified in the topic list?
     
     
    c. Are the titles classified correctly in the topic list?

    g. Does the copyright correspond to that indicated in the journal?
     
     
    h. Do the address, telephone numbers and e-mail in the footer correspond to the journal?
     
     
    i. Do the hyperlinks to secondary pages work?
     
     

     



    4. Journal Secondary Pages

    b. Is the journal logo size appropriate?
     
     
    c. Are the ISSN number and version present?

    g. Is the text written in paragraphs?
     
     
    h. Does the copyright correspond to that indicated on the journal?

    j. Do the page elements comply with a visual pattern of fonts and colors?
     
     
    k. If the secondary pages have no information, is there any standard message?
     
     

     



    5. Collection

    c. Are all articles from the printed table of contents included in the electronic version?
     
     
    d. Are the articles in the same order as in the table of contents?
     
     
    e. Are the articles placed in the correct section?
     
     
    f. Do all hyperlinks to the table of contents or full text correspond to an article or section title?
     
     
    g. Are all titles correctly marked, including the subtitles?
     
     
    h. Are all authors correctly marked, with first and last name according to AACR2?
     
     
    i. If the articles have title and/or abstract in a different language, do these appear in the table of contents of the corresponding language?
     
     

     



    7. Abstract

    b. Does the title 'Keywords' appear only once?
     
     
    c. Is the abstract correctly marked (the entire text, until the last dot)?

    f. If there are abstracts or keywords in a different language, do these appear on the interface of the corresponding language?
     
     
    g. Are the references correct?
     
     



    8. Article

    c. Do the text paragraphs present out-of place breaks?
     
     
    d. Are the images visible on screen?
     
     
    e. Are the images legible?
     
     
    f. Is the image size within the dimensions allowed by the screen?
     
     
    g. Where the images inserted in the paragraph immediately below their mention in the text?
     
     
    h. If there are affiliation links, do they work?
     
     
    i. Do affiliations have a return link back to the authors?
     
     
    j. If there are links for notes in the text, are they working?
     
     
    k. Do the notes have return links back to the authors?
